An Uneventful Week

by JDH on January 14, 2017

This was an uneventful week, for the most part, and I am writing this on a lousy internet connection, so I will keep this brief: no change from last week.

Gold had a decent week, but I didn’t buy or sell; I held.

Here’s why: My goal this year is to maximize returns while minimizing risk.  I made a lot of money on gold in the first half of 2016, and gave most of it back in the second half by being close to fully invested.  That was a mistake.

So, this year, I will buy only when conditions are favorable, and sell when I have a decent profit.  I have no need to be fully invested at all times, and I don’t need to wait for the exact top to sell everything.

This week, we had no extreme highs or lows, so there was no compelling reason to buy or sell, so I stayed on the sidelines.

Simple as that.

With the Trump Inauguration next week it is likely that this state of calm will not continue.  If so, there could be a lot more action next week.  We shall see.

Until then, we wait.  See you next week.
